Men knit to stop FGM

Men knit to Stop FGM

Men are using knitting to highlight that they are part of the solution when it comes to FGM, men knit is said to be the new yoga.

Moreover my house saw witness to the fact that men knit too too on Saturday afternoon. This was part of The Red triangle campaign, Freedom Charity’s latest initiative to ‘Support Donate Eradicate’ which will see an end to FGM in a generation.

#what can you knit ?

Freedom aim to get the nation knitting to help kick-start the conversation about FGM and how it needs to be stopped. The idea is to knit a downward facing red triangle, the symbol which represents FGM eradication

The funds Raised will ensure Freedom Charity can raise awareness and help schools tackle the growing problem of FGM. Last year five thousand girls are reported to have gone through FGM in the UK. Each year the summer holiday marks the start of the cutting season, our goal is to stamp this out for good.

Our handsome hunks Barney, Lewis and Nick had their first knitting experience today and managed to master casting on and knitting small triangles.

‘It was more enjoyable than I excepted and I was pleasantly surprised I was able to pick it.’ (Barney)

“I wasn’t any good at but it was a fun challenge, Hand eye coordination is an important part of this’ (Lewis).

Furthermore we are calling on men to come together to say not in my name, using the #menknittoo campaign as a platform to make a powerful statement against FGM. All you need is a simple knitting kit and you can do it where ever when ever, whether it’s round the table with tea and cake, ice-cold beers or even on a building site! (Insert pictures of us on dumper).

Please check out the Freedom Charity website and head to the fundraising page to start your knit and natter group.

And don’t forget #menknittoo!
